Wheat cereal. Wheat beer. The article says this crossover was inevitable, and it sure seems that way. Wheaties Hefeweizen, or HefeWheaties, will be available for those that want the drink that will make you feel like a champion if you drink enough of it.
The sad fact appears to be that it will only be available in Minnesota for the time being, brewed in partnership with Fulton Brewery and available through the brewery and at specific retailers in Minneapolis starting August 26th with an event at their taproom. Most articles only mention that it will be available in tall boy 4-packs, but positive thinking has it on tap at Fulton for its debut.
No word on athlete endorsements like the cereal is famous for, so don’t expect a Joe Mauer can on the shelves (yet). The photo is courtesy of the General Mills blog, which has a lot more detail on the brew. The blog post says the beer is “brewed with water, malted wheat, malted barley, hops from Germany, the U.S. and Australia, and a yeast strain specifically developed for fermenting American-style wheat beers” but doesn’t say it’s brewed with actual Wheaties cereal, much to my disappointment.
